Author Kim Hudson has identified a pattern of living in the stories of cultures across time and called it the Virgin's Promise. By honoring and being who we are we may live a fulfilling life. Based on her archetypal pattern, I have traced the steps of her story structure and provided a blueprint for it below. In the fashion of an oracle deck, a tool for divination, you may highlight and compare your life to one of the steps on the path by clicking on the link called Step into Life. You may likewise click on a picture below to read more about a step. You are encouraged to consider how your life may be showing up based on what step is highlighted or which step you are reading about.
Your life may follow the pattern and come to its fruition many times, while the steps you follow may not always be in the order shown. The pattern has been likened to a spiral which continues and ever renews itself.
As a believer in the power of story, and of archetypes, which are patterns of wisdom and instruction found in the unconscious part of our psyche, I believe the Virgin's Promise holds a promise for us all.
I. Dependent World You are living your life dependent on others or someone else in such a way which limits your chances of living a fulfilling life.
II. Shining Light You are given an opportunity to shine and be yourself for once.
III. Beauty You see and realize your inner beauty in an outer form.
IV. Secret World You begin to nurture a secret world in which you are safe and protected as you continue to explore and know yourself apart from others.
V. Open Door The door to your secret world begins to open with the risk of others discovering who you are.
VI. Discovery You are discovered in your secret world and are no longer able to hide in it.
VII. Letting Go You are given the choice of letting go of what has held you back.
VIII. Moving On You have to choose to be yourself or go back to your dependent world.
IX. On the Path You realize yourself as your path, choosing yourself over any fear or dependency.
